Understanding and Operating a Manually Operated Star Delta Starter
"A manually operated star delta starter is a mechanical control device used to reduce the high starting current of three-phase induction motors by transitioning the windings from a star (Wye) configuration to a delta configuration. By starting in the star position, the motor draws only one-third of the current it would otherwise consume at full voltage, protecting the electrical distribution system and the motor’s internal components from the mechanical stress of an immediate full-power start. The Engineering Purpose of Star Delta Starting Large three-phase induction motors are subject to significant inrush currents when energized directly fro..."
